I decided to enter the world of contracting in summer 2002, having worked as a mobile engineer for Fujitsu for a couple of years. My first contract was with Queens Hospital in Blackburn, sourced from an agency located in southern England. My dealings with them were less than satisfactory . . . . delayed payments, and a bad attitude to name just a couple of things. Whilst there I worked closely with a lad called Wayne, who was contracting through an agency called Max 20. He seemed very happy with the way he was paid and indeed treated. I met Don a little while later as he popped in to see how Wayne was getting on. This struck me as a very professional way to conduct business, and I was quite impressed. I took details of Max 20 from Wayne as I was due to finish at Blackburn and wanted some contact details. A few months later I contacted Don, sent in my CV and asked him to bear me in mind for any positions that became available. Soon after, he sent me to Liverpool PCT for an interview for a position there. Don had already secured a position for another lad there and had good contacts within the organisation. I started in the position a week later, and had all the necessary paperwork I needed. This included timesheets, phone and fax numbers, and I was also directed to an umbrella company that Don had recommended. I was a contractor for about a year before I was offered the full time position. For the whole of that year my wages (and overtime/ expenses) were paid on time every week without fail. I received regular contact from Don to make sure everything was ok, and at no time was his service less than 100% professional. This even extended to making it easy for Liverpool PCT to take me on permanent, which is a rarity amongst agencies. I would have no hesitation in recommending Max 20 to anyone, and indeed I have introduced a couple of fellow IT Engineers to Don, and they also have been happy with the results.
