| Candidate Profile : | I am currently managing a vintage clothing boutique that has been established and trading in Sunderland since July 2007. I set the business after a 9 month work placement and this has been an excellent steep learning experience. Although I have met sales targets for the first year the current economical climate has persuaded me to assess my future career path. I am now looking for a career in Project Management or Web Development, areas that I am very enthusiastic about and achieved success with at university and within business. Before setting up the Business I worked at a company called Calsonic Kansei who is a main supplier for the Nissan car plant in Sunderland. Within the Design Change Control department I was responsible for managing low to medium risk design change projects. I used Microsoft Project and Excel to plan, manage and implement the design changes and ensure the production process was not affected by the changes. It was vital to liaise directly with customer supply team contacts, various departments within the company – particularly Production, Stores, and Statistics and core suppliers to ensure the success of the projects. I would obtain future forecasts, production schedules and delivery dates to allow me to manage the implementation the changes. The placement at Calsonic developed my analytical skills and provided me with some vital experience of working in a fast paced business environment. I Graduated with a Business Computing Degree from the University of Sunderland in July 2006. The Degree I studied at university developed my communication and organisational skills. For example in my second year I volunteered for the Project Management role within a team of 12 diverse students. Microsoft Project was used to produce team reports and helped when delegating, scheduling and organising team meetings to ensure project milestones and deadlines were met. My Organisational ability, self- motivation and drive were essential for me to bring the team together to achieve our objectives, particularly during difficult stages in the project. At University I also learned various Web Development packages including Macromedia Dreamweaver, HTML, CSS, Fireworks, Flash and Adobe Photoshop and I used these to design and create websites throughout the course. I particularly enjoyed the creative side of designing websites and created a stylish and professional website for a designer clothing boutique for the final year project. The website also required a back end database and this was designed using proven Systems Analysis techniques and then developed into the website using PHP and MySQL programming. I also developed a Content Management System to allow the client to easily update the site. I found the design and development very stimulating and gained a 1st class grade for the work. The research was documented within my final year project in a 19000 word formal report along with the details of how the project was managed using Gantt charts and progress reports to ensure each milestone was met. I submitted reports throughout the course and this developed me into a fast and accurate writer, with a keen eye for detail.
